Today some friends and I decided to head out to Bayview Elementary and participater in the 45 mile ride put on by the Skagit Bicycle Club. There was a 25, 45, 62 and 100 mile option and with where the groups fitness level was we decided to tackle 45.
It was a beautiful morning as Chris, Pat, Jeff, and myself headed out attempting to catch up with John and Dirk which 13 miles into the ride we did. We enjoyed laughs and views as we pounded the pedals until the turn off for the 25 miler, which John and Dirk were doing. Chris, let out a sarcastic, "It's On!" and so I followed his lead, and all of the sudden he was riding back into me, hitting my front tire. I held on as long as I could and then. . . down I went - taking Patrick, who was behind me, with me. There was a thud and a few grunts until we finally stopped. Thankfully, other than our egos, well at least mine, were hurt badly. Needless to say, I opted to ride the rest of the 25 mile course and then head for home.
Tips for group road riding. . .
1- ride single file
2- always use verbal commands
3- wear a brain bucket!
4- carry a bike tool, preferably a super tool.
