Big weekend with HS XC runners

This past weekend Chris and I took 6 kids from our high school XC team to Cle Elum (Flying Horseshoe Ranch) for a weekend of perspiration and inspiration! We started the fun with a 5+ mile run, the first and last mile being a steady climb. This was a tough run and gave us a great opportunity to explore the surrounding areas.

The next morning we hit the road for a quick 4 mile run out and back (30 minutes), followed up with a 2 hour hike and capped with another road run of 4 miles in the evening. Through in doing other random competitive games and challenges and we probably totaled close to 17 miles for the day.

Sunday morning we woke up to pancakes, sausage and bacon for breakfast, before we took off to COC's ultimate orienteering race in the Teanaway Valley. This was by far the highlight of the weekend for me as I finally got Chris to race one with me. We did the 10k race which turned out to be more like 10 miles of up and down. We had a pretty clean race despite a brain fart on control 7 (we ran around and around this thing for about 20 minutes). We ended up finishing in a time of 2hrs 8mins, roughly 30 minutes behind the winning team. Pretty typical for the races that I've done, and it always comes down to 1 or 2 controls. Below is a picture of my feet after the race and the stats for the day.

(notice the raunchy blister on the toe)
Ascent = ~1950'
Descent = ~2000'
Total Elevation = ~2950'
MHR = 172
AHR = 151
Distance = ~10 miles
Duration = 2hrs 8mins
